Most Reverend Dr. Callistus Onaga

Bishop of Catholic Diocese of Enugu

Bishop Onaga was born in 1958 to Vincent and Victoria Onaga in Agbudu in Udi, Enugu State. He received a Bachelor of Divinity degree from Bigard Seminary, Enugu in 1987. He was ordained a priest on 8 August 1987. During his priestly ministry he was the pastor of St. Joseph, Emene, and Youth Chaplain for the Diocese of Enugu. From 1991-2000, he studied for a Doctorate in Systematic Theology at the University of Bonn, Germany.

Fr. Callistus Onaga was appointed to the episcopate by Pope Benedict XVI on 9 February 2009. Bishop Onaga has since visited the United States, including Sacramento in 2010 where he was the guest speaker for the Igbo Catholic Community USA (ICCUSA) and San Antonio in 2018 where he addressed the priests of Enugu Diocese in the United States (EPUSA).

Most Reverend Dr. Ernest Obodo

Auxiliary Bishop of Catholic Diocese of Enugu

Born in Awha-Imezi in Ezeagu local government of Enugu State in 1966, Bishop Ernest Obodo entered the Sacred Heart minor seminary in Nsude. He studied philosophy and theology at the Bigard Major Seminary in Enugu. He was ordained a priest on 22 July 2000 for the diocese of Enugu.

During priestly ministry, he was vicar of the Queen of Holy Rosary parish in Ugwuagor (2000-2001, pastor of the Saint Charles parish in Amechi Idodo (2001-2004), formator at the Saint Bernard’s Seminary in Nchatancha, and secretary of the diocesan clergy of Enugu. He was also the chaplain of the Saint Jude Society and a member of the diocesan Commission for History (2004-2009). From 2010-2016 he studied for his doctorate in theology at the University of Innsbruck, Austria. Upon his return, he was appointed rector of the Saint Bernard’s Seminary and a lecturer at the Bigard Memorial Seminary in Enugu.
